Summer Chills

I've been getting into the Cali-chill summer tunes a lot lately, with the end of winter finally coming into sight. There is truly nothing better than having your summer theme song. We all know and remember the song that defined ourselves and our summers of breaks past. Today we delve into some of these tunes.

The artist we will explore today is that of Toro Y Moi, an experimental pop artist out of South Carolina. The name is a derivative of french and spanish languages, with "Toro y" meaning "Bull and" in spanish, and "moi" being the more obvious "me" in french. The Bull and I. The reef diving, soul exploring hums from him will inspire the most frost-stricken of you, and bring dreams of summer. Below are a few tracks that I have been found to be absolutely awesome. Check out his blog at http://toroymoi.blogspot.com/

Math Rock? Nom Nom Nom

Everybody likes Mathcore. No? Ok, well than maybe we can agree on a lovely little band from Oxford, UK: This Town Needs Guns.

When my budday boi turned me on to them I wahs like, noh whay. He told me they basicaly envented math rock. Cool, but I don’t care what they are; Regional Mexican, Crunk, Ambient or Pirate Core, if you make up your own genre, you’re OK in my books.

“K, so what’s their deal MJCK?”
They really want to just get their stuff out there, for one. So do what you will, music sinners, but there is a small internet tip jar for these boys, and I think you should check it out
(Or just buy the damn thing, they really do deserve it). http://www.myspace.com/thistownneedsguns

In the meantime, wait for some stuff by these guys in our upcoming Summer Chill podcast (HINT??//!?)

One last thing, TTNG named the whole album after various animals. So here is my favorite, Panda.
